Advice and frequently asked questions
Q: What exactly is tree surgery and arboriculture?
A: Tree surgery and arboriculture is the management of individual trees or groups of trees primarily for their amenity value whether they’re in a garden or park setting.
Q: My tree has outgrown my garden, can you help?
A: If a tree has become too big for the garden or its surroundings, the height can be reduced and shaped accordingly. Many trees can be shaped, but care must be taken though as a heavy or hard prune can lead to rapid re-growth which has the opposite effect.
Q: My tree is too big to fell in my small garden. What can be done?
A: We will carry out a Sectional Fell – this is where the tree is taken down in sections using ropes, pulleys and friction devices to minimise damage to the surrounding features – we’ve even used cranes to lift sections of the tree over buildings!
Q: How do you dispose of the trees?
A: All the wood is chipped onsite and then taken to a green waste recycling facility where it is converted into compost and any timber can be logged for fuel - total recycling!
Q: I can’t manage my hedge any more is this something you can do?
A: We have all the necessary tools and equipment to trim the largest of hedges to a manageable size. If the hedge is too big, we can or completely remove it and plant a smaller hedge, easier for your own management.
Q: Is my tree protected?
A: Some trees may have a Tree Preservation Order – TPO – placed on them. These trees require a specific application to be made to the local authority, taking 8 weeks. Some may be located within the boundary of the local Conservation Area. These require a letter of intent application, taking 6 weeks. If we are asked to carry out the work, we carry out the applications on your behalf, free of charge.
