Felling
The complete removal of a tree is sometimes necessary if the tree has died or it's condition has become dangerous. If space permits, this can be accomplished by directional felling. Where lack of space dictates sectional felling, the tree is systematically dismantled in a controlled and safe manner to avoid damage to surrounding obstacles. Roping, rigging equipment and mobile cranes and elevated platforms can be used.
Crown reduction
A crown reduction can be carried out where the tree is too big, this technique includes the side branches – lateral branches to help balance the shape. Care should be taken on the more vigorous growing trees to minimise the amount of re-growth. A thinning can also be carried out to obtain the required effect.
Crown thinning and uplifting
The technique of thinning is to help reduce the density of the crown. This can be done for several reasons, reducing ‘sail’ effect, which helps reduce potential risk from wind damage, helps to increase air flow and light through the canopy and to help balance the crown shape. A light reduction in conjunction with a thin is an excellent way of maintaining the natural shape whilst gaining light. An uplift of the lower canopy allows easier access for pedestrians and vehicles, whilst maintaining the overall shape.
Dismantling/Removing
The dismantling/removal of dead or dangerous trees in confined spaces or over obstructions and buildings is an exacting and specialised task. We are experienced and qualified to use modern lowering techniques practised by our skilled arborists.
Crown Cleaning/Deadwood Removal
Crown cleaning is the removal of dead, dying or broken branches and diseased wood. This can be significant for the health of a tree and important in public areas or close to highways etc. from the viewpoint of safety. However, where only limited public access occurs, wildlife may utilise deadwood for habitat and a food source.
Stump Grinding
Stump grinding will remove the smallest to the largest of tree stumps, even in difficult locations. Tree stumps are unsightly, can be difficult to remove yourself or mow round in a lawn. They can attract fungus and other wood rotting organisms which can then affect other trees. There is no limit to the size or number of stumps we can grind.
Hedges & Planting
We carry out hedge trimming to reduce height and width which helps some clients to easily manage their own hedges, or if requested will remove overgrown hedges. We also include tree planting and construct planting schemes from simple individual plantings to large-scale multiple planting of specimen trees.
Health & Safety Reports and Arboricultural Consulting
Experienced and conscious of the ever tightening legislation, we offer a Health & Safety Report service to help reduce any concerns you may have about individual or multiple trees. We also offer an Arboricultural Consultancy service including BS 5837 – Tree in Relation to Construction.
